A three-court covered ‘paddle sports facility’ has been proposed for Vic West’s Dockside Green community along Harbour Road, Citified has learned.
The project, situated at a parcel called “Dockside BETA” and dubbed as “The Padel Hub,” [sic] is envisioned for a surface parking lot at 356 Harbour Road between the community’s sewage treatment plant and a two-storey office building.
Civic application documents for a delegated development permit application (meaning, staff review and approve the proposal in lieu of elected officials) include three paddle sport courts (identified for a game called ‘padel tennis,’ and emphasized by the proponent as “Not tennis. Not pickleball. Not squash”) under three independent arched roof structures.

To the south of the courts is a two-storey building composed of a small retail operation, two therapy rooms and two rest rooms. On-site parking is shown to accommodate upwards of four vehicles.
Filed documents are not sourced to any architectural or design firm, outside of landscaping plans associated to Biophilia Collective and a land survey via Summit Land Surveying.
Padel, or padel tennis, is a game described as a mixture of tennis and squash and is played on enclosed courts. Padel is fast-paced, according to its description, and can be played at all ages. It is a different game than pickleball.
The Vic West proposal, once approved and then constructed, will deliver the Capital’s first dedicated padel tennis facility.
Elsewhere in the municipality, meanwhile, the City of Victoria recently opened the region’s largest pickleball facility at Topaz Park, where 11 courts are available to the public. C
