Better explanation from the development application:

"The original street facade was concrete with wood frame windows, storefronts and doors, which will be recreated to match the details based on archival photographs and original architectural drawings."..."The two-storey addition is stepped back from the front and rear elevations. The finishes for the addition are prefinished metal cladding, aluminum windows, and painted concrete block on the side elevation."

No brick veneers on this one it would seem.

Although the 1960s facade is not original, it is still part of this building's history. Is it not worthy of some sort of preservation too? Does it only get to exist in photos from now on?

Edit: For the record I think the 1960s renovation is hideous, but it represents an era in the city's architectural history when "modern" was considered superior to historical. By recreating the original facade aren't we again trying to erase part of history that we deem unfashionable today?

Signs on the outside say that 30 "luxury" 1-2 bedroom units will be available October 1, starting at $1600. It also looks like Oxygen Yoga and Fitness will be opening up another location on the ground floor. They currently have one at the Royal Oak Shopping Centre.

On the subject of fitness studios, another one (called Annex Fitness) is opening up on Yates Street next to Giant Bicycles, though I think signs for this have been up for awhile now. At this rate, we may need a "Fitness Studio Comings and Goings" thread.
