A Quadra Street landmark at the intersection of Tattersall Drive dating back to the early 20th century is slated for redevelopment into a mixed-use commercial and residential complex.
The
five-storey proposal from Alan Lowe Architect, currently before the District of Saanich, is envisioned for 3572, 3580 and 3584 Quadra Street, a trio of properties anchored by Quadra Appliances and Proline Roofing.
Dubbed Uptown East, the project calls for over 50 residences and 6,600 square feet of at-grade retail space fronting onto Quadra Street and Tattersall Drive. Parking will be in the form of an underground parkade with capacity for residents and commercial users.
At over 100-years-old, the present-day Quadra Appliances building (at 3584 Quadra Street) has stood over the Quadra Street and Tattersall Drive intersection serving under various capacities that included a cobbler (Quadra Street Boot & Shoe Repair Depot), a convenience store (Phil's Confectionary), and political campaign offices (Elizabeth May). In 2011 work crews undertook a significant renovation of the structure that also saw the exterior appearance of the building change from its familiar blue colour to light beige.
