The eight-storey Johnson Street Gateway/Northern Junk condominium and ground floor commercial development was envisioned to include 103 residential units and a full heritage restoration of the Northern Junk buildings on Wharf Street at Johnson Street in downtown Victoria.
The proposal had been a work in progress since 2010 and was cancelled in 2019. A rental concept has now been envisioned for the site.

...It only owns Ship point and the surplus lands that have just come available around the Johnson St bridge. And yes I'd agree what has been done to date re. the surplus JSB lands is underwhelming but I am aware that these areas are far from complete...
Based on what has been developed to date I see no reason to be optimistic about the future of this or any other public realm space in which the CoV has any influence.
It's not the "same old rhetoric". It's a fear of what may be done, out of gut feelings or dogma, that will affect Victoria for many, many years to come. Some of what Council has done is working...some was rushed through before being fully thought through. The space we're talking about, has to be framed by the redevelopment of the Northern Junk buildings. Let's just see how it looks, and how the new bike lanes along Wharf are working, before any decisions are made.

The two Northern Junk buildings will be restored, but instead of facing a stub street and some landscaping like they are now the buildings will face a new building--kind of a half-circle or three-quarter circle that almost wraps around the old buildings.
Height will be in line with other Old Town buildings.
This is very early design stage, nothing is firm and no proposal is before Council yet. First will be rezoning.

In other words, it's dead.
Wish a miracle can happen and the 2012 version brought back. Since they are not building anything now, they might as well re-negotiate with the City. A boutique hotel, retail/ F&B and condo multi-use would be prefect here.
