Dang, this building is long just like an old-school lowrise apartment building from the 1960s/1970s. Obviously that part of town is already chock full of long buildings that have a footprint equivalent to several consecutive residential lots, so I suppose it's no big deal. But I think it's been quite a while since we've seen a new building in the neighbourhoods that followed this model, amirite? Where a surface parking lot or an empty lot was not involved? Or where an existing long building wasn't already standing there? I guess that project currently under construction in James Bay is also a long one.
Yeah, I meant in the city neighbourhoods, not Langford. In Capital Park's case there was a large surface parking lot there and the existing buildings were low and long to begin with. The one across from Beacon Hill Park was also already a long building.
The first phase of the retirement castle near Jubilee Hospital replaced a fairly large parking lot, but phase 2 is definitely a lot-gobbler. I forgot about that one. Phase 2 might actually be the most severe recent example in terms of taking out a bunch of smaller houses/buildings in one swoop.
So the crux of my question is: is lot-gobbling in the neighbourhoods going to become acceptable again like it was in the old days?
Several houses went down to make way for that townhome project on Wilson at Catherine.
There are some examples of recent house gobblers along Shelbourne.
