Dog area, pickleball part of expansion plans for Colwood's Quarry Park
While work is underway to construct Quarry Park, a new public recreation space in the Latoria South area of Royal Bay, the City of Colwood already has designs on expanding the area to include more much needed facilities.
If endorsed by council, Quarry Park could be expanded to include a synthetic turf field, community centre and a flexible playing field space, which would bring "substantial recreational and social benefits" to the community.
“Quarry Park expansion represents a significant investment in community infrastructure, with a total estimated cost of $9,675,783,” said Matt Blakely, senior planner, at a meeting of the Parks, Trails and Recreation Committee on Oct. 7.
A senior-focused phase of single-floor homes is coming to Royal Bay, known as Quarry Villas.
This development reminds me of what you see so often in Qualicum, and it's a very convenient, age-in-place housing format for seniors or downsizers, plus garages can accommodate two vehicles.

The basements are sometime in Vancouver Island as well at the footings. Sewer and water also. But most of it is not.
As construction ramps up on the waterfront area at Royal Bay in Colwood, the developers have asked council to consider two sites for hotel projects.
The 134-acre Beachlands site, with 1.4 kilometres of shoreline, is expected to be built out over 15 years with 2,850 homes, parks and plazas and dozens of dining and retail businesses.
Developers Seacliff Properties and Reliance Properties submitted an application this month to add hotels as an allowable use within two areas of the site.
One is along Metchosin Road on the southern edge of The Beachlands, while the other is in the centre of the development, where a waterfront plaza is planned.
In a letter to Colwood’s planning department, Seacliff vice-president of development Georgia Desjardins and Reliance Properties CEO Jon Stovell said they see hotels as a “key component” of the commercial mix on the site.
They noted the region is experiencing record tourism numbers, and the hotel-room shortage has become so apparent that Destination Greater Victoria — the region’s tourism marketing agency — is establishing a task force to speed up hotel development across the region.
