Address:
257 Belleville Street is a proposal for an eight-storey condominium along the 200-block of Belleville Street in the City of Victoria's James Bay neighbourhood.
The property is currently occupied by a shuttered 33-suite hotel known as the Admiral Inn.

“The applicant could take this back and rethink it and come back with a proposal that has a lot more housing. We should probably be looking at something that’s much bigger,” he said.
Meanwhile, another project barely a block away at Quebec Street & Montreal Street was forced to scale down because it was deemed to be too big.
There is now a proposal seeking a variance in bylaws to construct a building reaching a height of 32 metres.
This proposed height would surpass the existing zoning limit and make the building taller than any other structure in the neighbourhood.
Additionally, the expanded footprint would leave only 28.5 per cent of the site as open space, which is significantly less than the zoning standard of 40 per cent.
The plan also includes no setback on either of the main sides of the building
With the potential for up to 57 units and 78 parking stalls, the volume of traffic on Cross Street waiting to turn onto Pendray or Quebec would increase by 50 per cent over the current traffic generated by Laurel Point condos at this busy intersection.
As immediate neighbours, we sincerely hope that city council will reject these requests.

A redevelopment of the Admiral Inn in James Bay may finally get off the ground after Victoria council approved minor tweaks to a legal agreement on Thursday.
The proposal is to build an eight-storey, 35-unit condo project to replace the existing 34-unit Admiral Inn, which has been on the site for 70 years.
Council voted unanimously to no longer require a clause regarding public realm improvements. When the city passed its works and services bylaw last year, it made the proposed public realm improvements a requirement.
Mayor Marianne Alto, who noted the Admiral Inn project was the first land-use matter she ever considered when she was first elected in 2011, said it was a relief to see the project finally move forward after 15 years.
There are very preliminary plans to build a residential building on the site of the Admiral Inn.
It's a long, narrow L-shaped lot next to the Laurel Point condo/townhouse.

Right now, the existing density is only 1.2:1. There are no plans, concepts, drawings etc. at this point.
Here we are, 18+ years later.

It hasn’t moved forward just yet.
